Urban Bride Cape Town – “Designs inspired by our brides.”
The Urban Bride story
What inspired you to start designing bridal gowns?
To give you a little background on Urban Bride, I started designing bridal gowns as a part-time job. At that time, we had a vintage car and we were approached by a number of people asking us if we would rent it out for weddings. That served as the deal breaker and once I finished my degree, I decided to open Urban Bride, where I design gowns for beautiful brides.
Apart from wedding gowns, do you offer any accessories for brides and if so, what accessories do you offer?
We offer a number of accessories for brides, including custom-made veils; should the bride choose to have one custom made. We also offer backless and strapless bras for the bride, bridesmaids and mother of the bride and groom. Other accessories include hair pins, cake toppers, wedding badges, wedding hangers, heel stoppers, body tape, lace garters as well as bridal bracelets.
What is the difference between your couture bridal collection and your bespoke wedding gown collection?
At Urban Bride, we have main types of wedding gown collections. The first type is the couture collection. Our couture collection is internationally inspired designs constructed with imported lace and fabrics which is produced locally in our studio.
These dresses are designed and ready-to-wear gowns that brides can pick and choose from when visiting the store.
The other type of wedding gown collection we have is the bespoke bridal wear collection. Bespoke bridal gowns are designed and constructed to the Bride’s specifications ensuring individuality and exclusiveness. These gowns are constructed to your exact measurements ensuring a perfect fit. We offer our bespoke designs with the option to hire or purchase.
What can a bride expect when coming to Urban Bride after booking an appointment?
We discuss and assess your design requirements as soon as you make yourself at home at Urban Bride. You can try on various sample gowns to guide you with the different silhouettes and what’s best suited for your body type to confirm and finalize your design. Measurements will also be taken.
We offer you a selection of imported fabric options best suited for your design and production of your gown takes 10 – 12 weeks. We will contact you for fittings to ensure you are involved and satisfied with the progress and your input provided.
Once your bespoke gown has been completed you shall be contacted for your final fitting. We include complimentary sizing alterations 2 weeks prior to your wedding date if necessary.
What do you enjoy most about designing wedding gowns for brides?
I love it when a bride enters the store with an idea of what she would like her gown to look like. To know that it is my job to transform her idea into the gown of her dreams is probably the most exhilarating feeling in the world.
What type of fabrics and embellishments do you like to use when designing wedding gowns?
All beadwork is done by hand and should a bride require lace, sequence or any other embellishments, Urban Bride would be happy to go the extra mile to make sure your gown looks perfect.
How far in advance does a bride need to book an appointment when she wants a wedding gown designed?
In order for Urban Bride to design a gown, we would need a bride to book an appointment at least 4 months before her wedding date. This gives us enough time to sit down with the bride and find out exactly what type of gown she has in mind. It also gives us enough time to design the gown as well as extra time for any other alterations.
